it is not always (immediately) clear how to act. For example, because the rules are not clear or contradict each other. Then it can be quite difficult in practice to make a careful consideration and choice.
The code of conduct contains a Banking for Better compass that can help you or your team make good decisions. This compass consists of 3 steps (recognize, decide and commit) with a number of activities under each step, there are 8 in total.
Below briefly the 3 steps with the corresponding 8 activities in a row:
Action 1: Dilemma. Describe the dilemma,
formulate option A and option B.
Action 2: Stakeholders? Identify the relevant parties involved.
Action 3: Information. Gather the information
and separate facts from assumptions.
Step 2: Decide
Action 4: Arguments. Formulate the arguments for option A and B and categorise these into facts, rights, interests and excuses.
Action 6: Limit the damage. Can you limit the damage as much as possible on the side you don't choose?
Step 3: Commit
Action 7: Control questions. Have you given the right weight to the arguments? Does your decision fit with the bank’s purpose, the regulations and our core values? Can you apply your decision to other similar situations?
